Port Saint John donates $25,000 to priority neighbourhoods
Saint John, N.B. – Port Saint John is donating $25,000 to the five priority neighbourhoods surrounding the port. This equates to $5,000 to five charities in our area including the Carleton Community Centre Inc, ONE Change Inc, Crescent Valley Resource Centre, PULSE and the Waterloo Village Neighbourhood Association. Throughout this time of renewed prosperity on the waterfront, the port realizes their responsibility to ensure the whole community benefits from the recent growth of Port Saint John.
“We know that many are struggling to make ends meet this year, so we are happy to be able to make this donation to support these five charities that do so much to help our priority neighbourhoods,” said Craig Bell Estabrooks, President and CEO of Port Saint John. “It’s our responsibility as a member of the Saint John community to be responsive to local needs and we hope that this donation will fill a gap for these organizations.”

This is a great example of the Port supporting community organizations that work in Saint John, said Tamara Kelly, Executive Director at The ONE Change Inc. “The donation from the Port will assist us in offering quality programming to the residents (youth to senior) in the Old North End. Having the Port as a community partner highlights their support of the work we do within our community.”

This donation will help us deliver programming to our vulnerable, youth, and senior population on the lower west side. PULSE would like to thank the Port of Saint John for their continuing support of our organization and the residents of the Lower South End over the past several years. Partners like the Port allow us to provide basic necessities to residents like food and personal care supplies from our Help Yourself pantry and emergency food program. Working with limited resources, donations like these are instrumental. Their support for summer programs hosted at PULSE are a hit with residents of all ages and provide opportunities for people to come together. The Port is part of our community and we appreciate their commitment to the neighbourhood, said Mary LeSage, Neighbourhood Developer at P.U.L.S.E.
