COMMUNITY INVESTMENT

SITEWIDE QUICK LINKS

THROUGHOUT THE YEAR,

Port Saint John supports dozens of charities and non-profits through donations and volunteer hours from its employees. In particular, focus is given to charities providing basic needs to children and families in neighbourhoods surrounding the harbour.

UNITED WAY OF GREATER SAINT JOHN

Port Saint John and its employees partner with and support United Way through different giving initiatives, including an annual employee giving campaign, event sponsorship and donations to different causes organized by United Way. The Port is dedicated to supporting causes that address poverty for children, promote education, and promote community enhancement.

ACAP SAINT JOHN

As an environmental non-profit in Saint John and long-time partner of Port Saint John, ACAP finds solutions to Saint John’s ecological challenges through outreach, restoration, and research. In collaboration with the City, they created the Saint John Climate Change Adaptation Plan, which features the risks and adaptation opportunities for the city and the port.

We support them in various ways including in-kind use of our vessels and captain for research such as micro-plastic sampling in the harbour. We also partner with them for habitat restoration projects and outreach events.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCY PROGRAM

In 2020, Port Saint John and the Saint John Arts Centre announced a landmark sponsorship of a signature gallery space at the Saint John Arts Centre and a partnership for a biennial artist in the residency program, where a professional artist would be selected to create original port-focused works over a period of 10 months. The successful artist is given funding and exhibit space to display their works.

The first residency program launched in September 2021, and Sarah Sackville, was the unanimous choice made by the selection committee. Fred Harrison, artist and sculptor was announced as the second artist in residence for the 2023 artist in residency program.

HARBOUR LIGHTS

Port Saint John partners with CBC Radio One Information Morning Saint John each December to carry out the annual Harbour Lights Campaign which began in 1997 and has raised more than $3.5 million for 16 food banks in Southern New Brunswick.
