Port Saint John honours MSC’s 5th year at Port Saint John

Port Saint John recognized the 5th anniversary of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company’s service at the port during tonight’s Opening Reception event at Saint John Port Days.The arrival of an MSC container ship to the Port of Saint John on the 8th May 2012 was a notable moment in the Port’s rich history.  It was the Port’s first call of a global liner service for over a quarter of a century.Since then, the company has made over 200 calls to Port Saint John. From Saint John, importers and exporters are connected to over 300 ports around the world, making it a key gateway for local shippers of such commodities as paper, peat moss, or potatoes.“The introduction of MSC to Port Saint John was a key step in the Port’s renewal strategy and we have been pleased to partner with the line these past five years as we moved towards our West Side modernization project,” said Jim Quinn, President & CEO of Port Saint John.“Our Board is pleased with the close partnership Port management and MSC Canada management have forged and we look forward to this continuing in the future,” said Philip Brewer, Chair of the Board of Port Saint John.The presence of MSC at Port Saint John continues to present tremendous opportunities for New Brunswick business to expand their markets by getting their products around the world.“Our partnership with Port Saint John has provided tremendous benefits to MSC and our customers”, said Darren Edwardson, Vice-President Commercial Export of MSC Canada. “Investments such as this, in combination with our global network, provide local importers and exporters with the opportunity to trade with almost any country on the planet.  We are committed to facilitating global trade which will help the Canadian economy to thrive.”
