Port Experiences Significant Year-Over-Year Traffic Increase of 10%
SAINT JOHN (NB) – During 2015 Port Saint John experienced an overall 10% increase over 2014 in all commodity sectors of port traffic, with a total tonnage figure of 26.4 million metric tonnes of cargo handled throughout the year.Dramatic increases over the past four years in specific cargo sectors through Rodney Container Terminal and Courtenay Bay (dry bulk) contribute to a dramatic percentage increase of 53% in cargoes handled at Port Saint John facilities from 1.3 million metric tonnes in 2011 to 2 million metric tonnes in 2015. Cargo at private facilities rose 11% during 2015 to 24.4 million metric tonnes.“Our strategic direction is set each year by our Board of Directors and underpinned by an inclusive approach to stakeholder engagement. This approach to work collectively on shared priorities continues to bear fruit for the entire port community,” noted Jim Quinn, President & CEO of Port Saint John.

Activity that happens here is an important contributor to local economies across our Province. Products from all corners of the Province are shipped to the Port using New Brunswick truckers, rail and roads. The Port opens the global marketplace to New Brunswick producers,” said Peter Gaulton, Chair of the Board of Directors for Port Saint John.
