Governments of Canada and New Brunswick Support Incoming Trade Mission From Brazil, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic
SAINT JOHN (NB) – Fifteen companies from Brazil, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic will participate in an incoming trade mission to New Brunswick following Port Days in Saint John taking place on June 12 and 13, 2013. This initiative will allow these buyers and businesses to explore potential business opportunities in New Brunswick, creating and fostering additional north-south trade links.“Opening new markets and increasing Canadian exports is a key part of our Government’s plan to create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity,” said Rodney Weston, MP for Saint John, on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of National Revenue and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. “This incoming mission will increase the opportunity for economic growth for businesses throughout New Brunswick, by helping them to connect with new markets and capitalize on new export opportunities.”“Growing New Brunswick’s export economy is an important part of our plan to rebuild New Brunswick, said Hon. Paul Robichaud, Minister of Economic Development. “International trade is a cornerstone of our export strategy and this incoming trade mission is an excellent opportunity to connect buyers with sellers.”Organized by Enterprise Saint John and the Port of Saint John, participating delegates in the mission will take part in a number of activities including meetings, networking receptions, and local business site visits. These 15 companies represent sectors including food and beverage, agricultural, seafood, paper products and engineering. This incoming mission is a follow-up to a successful outgoing mission in November 2012, during which the Port of Saint John signed an MOU with the Port of Caucedo in the Dominican Republic. The theme for Port Days 2013, which is held from June 9 – 11, 2013, is “Strengthening North/South Trade Links”, specifically focusing on existing and potential trade connections with Latin America and the Caribbean. The goal of the mission is to increase exports to these countries.The Government of Canada is investing $74,848 in this trade mission through ACOA’s Business Development Program, while the Province of New Brunswick is contributing $6,000.
