Container Traffic Increases Persist as Port Enters 4th Quarter of 2014
SAINT JOHN (NB) – In 2013, the Port experienced 60 per cent growth in their container sector.This year, the upward trend has continued.“The port is a team of interconnected businesses. We are pleased our partners at both Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and Tropical Shipping are contributing to the success of shippers and receivers in the region who are using Port Saint John more now than they have in decades. The port also reported a significant increase in dry bulk with a notable 119% year-to-date increase in salt from the new potash mine at Piccadilly (nearly 374,789 tonnes year-to-date 2014 as compared to 170,870 in the prior year).These individual sector increases are the largest factors contributing to an overall 8% year-to-date increase at Port Saint John operated facilities.Port Saint John is Eastern Canada’s largest port by tonnage and has a diverse cargo base, including dry and liquid bulk, break bulk, containers, and cruise.
