Container Tonnage Up By Almost 60 Per Cent
SAINT JOHN (NB) – Container tonnage was up 59 per cent over 2012 statistics at the close of 2013.It was a stellar year for container traffic through the Port. Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world’s second largest container line, spent their first full year calling Port Saint John. Hapag-Lloyd, another global container line, began offering their services through long-time Port partner Tropical Shipping in October.Container tonnage increased from 312,000 tonnes in 2012 to 497,000 in 2013. Container TEUs increased from 50,672 in 2012 to 76,269 in 2013.
