30th Cruise Season Starts May 1 and continues through to November 2

On Tuesday, May 1, Oceania Cruises Marina will kick-start the 30th cruise season in Saint John.  With the final ship of the year scheduled to call on November 2, the 2018 cruise season will be one of the longest on record at Port Saint John and is anticipated to be a 19% increase over the 2017 season.Tuesday’s ship is scheduled to arrive at 8:00 am and depart at 6:00 pm and will be docked at the Marco Polo Cruise Terminal.   Marina is carrying approximately 1,200 guests on board.“Our Port Saint John, operations group, Meet & Greet volunteers and business development and marketing staff have been working in concert to ensure the guest and ship experience here exceeds expectations,” said Jim Quinn, President & CEO of Port Saint John.  “We know that our industry and community partners are also gearing up to welcome the more than 240,000 guests and crew we are expecting this year.Cruise activity represents an annual $49.9 million boost to New Brunswick’s economy.  This figure was taken from an economic impact study entitled “International Cruise Industry in Canada (2016)”, which was conducted by Business Research & Economic Advisors, and carried out in partnership with the Atlantic Canada Cruise Association.The total impact included direct spending by cruise lines, passengers, and crew in New Brunswick of $21.5 million, 298 direct jobs in the Province, and $12.5 million in personal income.The 2018 season includes 75 scheduled cruise ship calls, more than 176,000 guests, nearly 70,000 crew and a number of notable visits and dates including:

  • 15  double cruise ship days (June 5, July 3, September 4, 14, 18, 27, 29, 30  and October 2, 4, 10, 17, 20, 24, 27)
  • 2 triple cruise ship days (September 26 and October 11)
  • 5 inaugural calls NYK Cruises’ Asuka II (May 24), Noble Caledonia’s Hebridean Sky (May 27), Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s Adventure of the Seas(June 5), AIDA Cruises’ AIDAvita (June 27), and Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Escape (September 20)
  • New cruise lines to call in 2018 include: NYK Cruises, AIDA Cruises, and expedition-class cruise lines Noble Caledonia and Pearl Seas
  • Notable ship visit: Queen Mary 2 (July 3)
